Beginning this week, we bring you our guide to living well in the world’s capitals, from exhibitions to cinema, food, drink, fashion, music and beyond. Just call it culture and take it, it’s yours.

LONDON, SATURDAY 17TH AUGUST – SUNDAY 18TH AUGUST 2013

VISIT Sturtevant Leaps Jumps and Bumps before it closes
Transgressive artist Elaine Sturtevant’s practice is based on repeating greats such as Duchamp, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Warhol. She made her controversial debut in 1965, replicating Andy Warhol’s flower paintings just months after their initial presentation. Riding out instant hostility, Sturtevant is now regarded as precursing our age of repetition and unattributed imagery. When Warhol was asked how he made his work, he replied “Ask Elaine”. Immense.
Daily from 10:00-18:00 until 26th August; Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens, London W2 3XA

WATCH Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on your actual day off
Another John Hughes coming-of-age classic, Ferris Bueller skips school, takes a ’61 Ferrari, swans about Chicago like a dude and gets away with it. Still can’t get enough cult? The Lost Boys is on at ten o’clock.
Saturday 17th August 16:30 (The Lost Boys at 22:00); Backyard Cinema at London Fields Brewery, 365-366 Warburton St, London E8 3RR

QUESTION Danny Boyle and the cast of My Brother The Devil in an abandoned psychiatric hospital

STUFF YOUR FACE AND LISTEN TO DIY heroines 少年ナイフ
In the words of Kurt Cobain: “When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert.” Get ready to pee your pants, then, as the iconic Japanese group Shonen Knife, known for their matching looks and DIY ethos are playing to a crowd of just 100 in Brixton. Covered by Sonic Youth, L7 and Redd Kross, they’ve also had the honour of featuring on Beavis and Butthead. After 31 years and over 900 gigs, the all-girl band are able to play any of 118 songs at request. They still cut. (Oh and there’s a barbecue which will take the edge off your gaping/screaming fan mouth. Awesome.)
Saturday 17th August, doors 16:00; £10.00 (sold out, so you’re gonna have to use your initiative), The Windmill, 22 Blenheim Gardens, Brixton, London SW2 5BZ

CLOCK THE BEST VIEW IN LONDON with a dark ‘n’ stormy in hand at Frank’s Cafe
A wood and fabric structure on top of a multi-storey carpark in Peckham is the hottest bar in London right now. Figuratively, as you really feel the weather up there, so check the forecast and bring coats and blankets as necessary.
Wednesday-Sunday 11:00-23:00 (until September); Frank’s Cafe, 10th floor Peckham Multi-Storey Carpark, 95A Rye Lane, London SE15 4ST

HANG OUT RIVERSIDE  in, er, Hackney Wick
