This article is part of Weekend Combo – What to do this weekend

We bring you our guide to living well in the world’s capitals, from exhibitions to cinema, food, drink, fashion, music and beyond. Just call it culture and take it, it’s yours.

LONDON, SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST – SUNDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2013

CREEP OUT in a courtyard
The BFI’s Monster Weekend takes over the courtyard of the British Museum with a handful of chiller classics – Dracula, from 1958; The Mummy, from 1932 and Jacques Tourneur’s Night of the Demon from 1957, where a professor is convinced demonic forces are trying to destroy him (that one’s been, BTW). The guys from Death Waltz Recording Co will be spinning classic soundtracks and library cues before each performance – expect to hear everything from Bruno Nicolai to John Carpenter and murkiness in-between.

Catch Dracula tonight and The Mummy on Saturday 31st August (£15 per screening),
British Museum, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG

SNOOP AROUND God’s Own Junkyard
Buy or browse amazing neons created for Stanley Kubrick, David LaChapelle and King of Soho/60s sex mogul Paul Raymond, before it’s closed for good. Apparently Hackney Council want to sell the land the family business is based upon to build blocks of flats. Not so electric.

God’s Own Junkyard, 97 Vallentin Road, London E17 3JJ

REP REAL down Portobello
Only Real, our new favourite (at least that’s what the play count on iTunes tells us, other than a compulsion with the repeat-one button) is throwing a party in West London on Saturday night, with the man himself topping the bill. Tuesday Born support and Childhood DJ. Expect surprises, get waaaaaaaavvvy.

Saturday 31st August from 19:00,
Mau Mau bar, 265 Portobello Road, London W11 1LR
Like Only Real on Facebook, follow on Twitter and listen on Soundcloud

A LITTLE OF WHAT YOU FANCY, yeah, that’s the spirit
Elaine Chalmers and Lola Coone’s local for Dalstonites, the East London fashion pack and foodies is arguably the best brunch, or dinner, this side of the city. Their poached eggs, avocado and chorizo on toast is out of control! So book early. Alternatively find the ALOWYF team at The French House in Soho weekdays for lunch.

A Little of What You Fancy, 464 Kingsland Road, London E8 4AE

MAKE FRIENDS with an f–ing huge robot
Cygan, a bigger-than-human robot found by Nathaniel Lee Jones, whose exhibition opens in Prague this weekend, features in Christie’s Out of the Ordinary sale, happening 5th September. Featuring an eclectic array of oddball items that seem to defy easy selling categorisation, the auction itself is preceded by this public exhibition displaying the 150 unusual lots which range from £1,000 to £100,000, including Cygan, who was made in 1957.

Out of the Ordinary until 5th Sept,
Christie’s South Kensington, 85 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3LD

PONDER EXTINCTION at the Natural History Museum
Extinction: Not the End of the World?  is brimming with questions. Whilst mankind is undoubtedly an ominous hand on the shoulder of no-more, this exhibition takes in several perspectives, impressively non-didactic. For all extinction’s destructive force, it’s a creative one too. Pay tribute to dinosaurs and dodos as well as poignant recent losses: the Baiji dolphin has been gone since 2006. Visit and take in a deeper perspective, before the show too is gone.
