Alison Goldfrapp, the singer and songwriter and one half of the duo which bares her name, has been appointed the first curator of an annual exhibition at the Lowry in Salford, in which performers are given space to choose art that has inspired them personally.

Goldfrapp presents her chosen artworks which cover an eclectic range of themes – such as metamorphosis and folklore – clear influences in both her music and live acts, as well as presenting us with her fascination for the darker side of fairytales and self transformation.

Michael Simpson, The Lowry’s head of visual arts and engagement said on the collaboration, “The Lowry is a unique venue that combines major theatres and galleries under one roof and we value working with dancers, musicians and actors in our galleries and artists in our theatres. Alison Goldfrapp was a natural first choice for us, given her remarkable synthesis of music and visual imagery.”

The synth-pop soprano has selected works by artists ranging from  surrealist painter Leonora Carrington to the illustrator Jan Pienkowski and photo-collagist John Stezaker.

The exhibition also coincides with the release of Goldfrapp’s new box set version of their top five album Tales Of Us, containing a selection of remixes and live performances, a 40 page hardback book plus a 12″ lithographic print. What more could any Goldfrapp fan possibly want?

The works will be on display from 19th October 2013 to 2nd March 2014.
