Goodhood celebrates five years
By Lucy Morris | Fashion | 20 September 2012

Five years ago Hoxton’s Goodhood opened its doors and filled a void. To celebrate its birthday, founders Kyle Stewart and Jo Sindle have set up a pop-up-shop just across the road from their Goodhood home stocking exclusive collaborations with their favourite brands – including Antipodium, Bag ‘N’ Noud and Norse Projects. we spoke to Kyle Stewart to talk through the last five years of Goodhood.

What’s been your proudest Goodhood moment?

For certain, seeing the customers the store has appealed to. The 5th year party was a time for reflection and to see so many well-dressed people felt like a great achievement.

What’s been the hardest aspect?

There are many challenging aspects to running an independent business and starting with only your own money to fund it has been a consistent challenge. To raise finances and manage cash flow is particularly difficult. Trying to convince people to sell to you is something people don’t realise you have to go through but is also always a challenge.

What has been the funniest?

Travelling together (with Jo Sindle) on buying trips has opened up some pretty funny moments. Often when we’ve been tired and a bit past it we might reflect on some of the ‘fashionistas’ we have met, and found a great deal of humour in how seriously some people take dressing in a ridiculous manner.

What moment has have marked the biggest change in your life over the last 5 years?

Exclusively the birth of my son Duff. Me and Duff are going to be great friends, I can tell.

What would you do differently?

Building up a company from scratch with no backing is seriously hard work. I take my hat off to anyone that has done it especially with out backing.

What’s next for Goodhood?

We are opening an interiors shop soon, and our own line is going to come into full effect as of March 2013. Watch this space.
