Tania Kovats is an artist calling on the public to help create her rather magical new artworks.

Kovats’ upcoming exhibit Oceans, which is being supported by Louis Vuitton, includes All the Seas, a piece consisting of water samples taken from each of the world’s seas by people from around the world, fuelled by word of mouth and social media.

Kovats will also be travelling to places where the world’s great oceans meet, including Skagen in Denmark, Cape Agulhas in South Africa, Cape Reinga in New Zealand and Kanyakumari, Southern India.

Louis Vuitton have been keenly sponsoring the British artist’s journeys since June 2013, as well as utilising their network of stores, staff and contacts in order to help collect water for Oceans (she will exhibit at London’s New Bond Street maison next year). They’ve even gone as far as to provide Kovats with a one-off piece of luggage to transport the water she collects. Now that’s custom!

To take part in the project all you need to do is to collect seawater in a bottle or container, label it with the name of the sea, package it up and send it to The Fruitmarket Gallery, 45 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DF, Scotland. The exhibition Oceans opens in March 2014.

Plus, if you take a photograph of the sea from which the samples have been collected and upload it to the Tania Kovats: Oceans website, Facebook page or Twitter your name will become part of the work All the Seas when the exhibition opens.
