Seventeen-year-old Julian Klincewicz reps his bands Christy and LUBE as part of HERO 10. But there’s more to this San Diego resident, as an artist and Altamont Apparel-endorsed, Lurkville featuring skater. On the 18th January this year he welcomed his first solo exhibit at Gym Standard and Coffee & Tea Collective, showcasing illustrative, sculptural and photographic work.

“[In five years time] ideally I’d like to be making music successfully,” Klincewicz tells us. “I wouldn’t mind being some sort of designer. Lately I’ve been looking at what Alexander Girard created, and it’s got me so excited to just make things.”

He learned Transcendental Meditation at the age of thirteen. “The idea is that if you can get into a certain level of consciousness, you can reach your full potential. In the case of my goal, Yogic Flying.” That’s after putting together this playlist, of course.

Heartbreaker by Girls
The first guitar pedal I bought was a boss phase shifter, because I wanted to be able to write a song and play it how Heartbreaker sounds.

Eyesore by Women
I always trip out at how talented Women were. Everything fits together so perfectly on this song.

Big Iron by Marty Robbins
Gunfighter Ballads is my favourite album.

Robson Girl by Mac Demarco
I really wonder who this song is about. I read somewhere that he wrote the whole album at home in like two weeks or something, so I kind of imagine this one being about a TV character or something.

Another Language by Blank Dogs
I’m always interested in how people record their vocals, and use their voices.

Untitled by Matt and Kim
When I was in 9th grade I went through a Heave Matt and Kim phase (everything pre-Sidewalks) and taught myself how to play every single Matt and Kim song by ear. I even bought a Roland Juno G because thats what Matt Johnson played.

Gimme Some Time by Smith Westerns
0:31 seconds.

Automatic Stop by The Strokes
The chorus on Automatic Stop makes total sense to me. I’m sure everybody has those songs where you really understand part of it (or all of it), where you can feel it’s right… this is one of those for me.

American by SPOOK HOUSES
I’m very drawn to the lyric “I’m drunk and I feel like shit.” They way they say it really conveys the idea for me.

Workin’ On Leavin’ The Livin’ by Modest Mouse
One time I was cleaning my room and listening to the Making Nothing Out Of Something album, and this song came on. The outro fully made me freak out and feel super uncomfortable. It was kinda crazy.

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths
I used to hate how Morrissey sings, because I thought it was so Goddy. But then one day There Is A Light That Never Goes Out came on, and I just really got how angelic his voice is.

Nude As The News by Cat Power
This song has a lot of power to it. Significant weight.

Black Angels by George Crumb
I took a history through music course last year and George Crumb blew my mind. On a totally separate note, if you ever need some background music while you’re doing homework or cleaning or something, Plantasia by Mort Garson is great.

Our Moons by Christy
I think this is the one song on the album M I K E where I was really able to say what I meant, and it came out right. I’m not sure what other people think of it, but it has the most personal significance out of pretty much all the songs I’ve written.

HOLY by LUBE
So for a bit, LUBE was just Theo and I (Theo plays drums), and I wrote like ten songs that became BUCKMILD demos, but then we played a live show, and I had to loop everything , and it sounded really bad, so we asked my friend Kiva if he’d want to play guitar with us. HOLY was the first song that we wrote together/as the new three person LUBE. This recording we did right before a show, because we wanted to give Widospeak a CD with our music, to give to Mike Sniper.
