With a continuation on his previous journeys through deep routed British institutions, neighbourhoods and street culture in general, Kit Neale launches into SS15 with an exploration into the stereotypical British Mediterranean-esque holiday.

Think less Shirley Valentine or socks with sandals in Pacha and more a fun combination of Club Med inspired prints, heat transfers and embroidery for an overwhelmingly Joao Miró meets Martin Parr vibe. It’s set to be a sizzler.

“For the past few seasons, we have explored neighborhoods in London from Peckham to the Elephant and Castle,” explains Neale. “Everyone has been asking what neighbourhood we’re moving to for next season. Avoiding a cliché we wanted to move into another direction but continue our themes of exploring British life and culture. There’s a Joao Miro meets Martin Parr vibe to the collection with a Club Med, Ibiza-pacha feel. It is classically super fun with some amazing prints.

It felt right to do ‘Kit Neale goes on holiday’ as soon as we finished the last collection. We see Kit Neale as a fantasy character, growing up through the season. I guess the SS15 is his coming of age, first holiday away from the parents sort of thing…

For SS15 we have worked with heat transfers, quite often seen to be a cheap promotion technique and also some great embroidery used for the first time in our collections. In a similar manner with the embroidery, we like to play with traditional techniques with surprising imagery. I am hugely inspired by the artist Grayson Perry who always contradicts traditional techniques like ceramics or tapestry with very un-traditional imagery – I guess this comes through somehow.

There is a lot going on in the collection. We explore the whole journey of the stereotypical British holiday from the airport to the beach to the hotel miranda and the club. Look out for the tourist ‘icons’, I expect they’ll shine in the collection this season.”

Kit Neale presents his SS15 collection on Monday 16th June. Stay tuned to HERO for full fashion week coverage, from London, Florence, Milan and Paris
