Hey, is Barry home?

TikTok’s next big tend: terrorising the owner of the Saltburn stately home
By Christie Spelman | 27 February 2024

Amongst all the recent Saltburn dialogue and hype, a strange trend has emerged: fans are making pilgrimages to the film’s now-renowned Grade I-listed stately home, sneaking onto its grounds and posting videos on TikTok.

Drayton House, where the most debauched scenes of Saltburn were filmed [spolier alert! But if you haven’t seen it yet – come on…], one of them being Barry Keoghan’s character dancing around the house naked to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor, has become a spectacle for fans. The 700-year-old estate in Northamptonshire went viral on TikTok when the location was leaked to users, and now videos of fans filming themselves at the house, more often than not set to Bextor’s hit, have gained millions of views.

Unprepared for the popularity of the film, the owner of the estate, Charles Stopforth Sackville said, “I never envisaged the amount of interest there would be. It’s quite weird. I don’t take it as flattering.” Sackville claims that ‘more than 50’ trespassers were found to be off the public path wandering around the estate.

Still, Saltburn by Emerald Fennell, 2023

The owner of the estate is good friends with the parents of Saltburn director, Emerald Fennell, and says the location of the manor was to be kept top secret with production forbidden to mention the whereabouts of the estate.

Saltburn follows Oliver (Keoghan), a fresher at Oxford University who quickly becomes infatuated with fellow student Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi) as he becomes obsessed with fitting in with the aristocratic students. Through this he spirals into fixation, making many questionable decisions that get darker and darker.
