David Sims sets a slick mood for Bottega Veneta’s FW14 film

Bottega Veneta has released its FW14 film in collaboration with legendary British photographer David Sims, a first look at the short premiering here.

The film is a key component of this season’s edition of creative director Tomas Maier’s enduring series, ‘The Art of Collaboration’. The project sees the house join forces with a different photographer with each seasonal rotation, previous partnerships including names the likes of Nick Knight, David Armstrong, Nan Goldin, Peter Lindbergh, Collier Schorr, Robert Longo, Annie Leibovitz and Sam Taylor-Wood. To name a few.

Sims, who shot to attention in the 1990s via his stripped back work for publications including The Face, was an obvious choice for the campaign.

“I am a great admirer of David’s photographs,” reflects Maier. “We thought that his stark, pared-down aesthetic would be a natural fit with the graphic elements of this collection. The result is very impactful and I was extremely pleased with the collaboration.”

Set to a dark and ambient soundtrack, the new film features Edie Campbell and Otto Lotz in looks from the FW14 collection. Think back to the FW14 menswear show and it all comes together: set to Beyoncé’s ‘Superpower’, it oozed that singular Bottega Veneta sense of things not being exactly what they seem – militaristic, severe cuts and olive greens contrasted with haphazard dip-dyed knits.
