Burroughs for a limited time only: for ten days only, a glimpse into a rare edit of the Beat legend’s work

A new, ten-day-only exhibition in East London shares an exclusive insight into the rarer works of William S Burroughs.

Animals in the Wall is showing over 40 pieces of never-before-seen Burroughs’ artwork, co-curated by James Elphick and Yuri Zupancic. Original drawings, etchings and pieces of distressed wood are erratically sprayed with graffiti-esque, anarchic paintwork, where form is built through layering. It’s all featured alongside original responses from a strong line-up of contributing artists including Shepard Fairey, Matt Black (of Coldcut and Ninja Tune founding fame) and Brion Gysin, the late sound poet, writer and painter credited with discovering the literary cut-up method who Burroughs himself once referred to as the “the only man I ever respected”.

The exhibition presents a completely different take on Burroughs to those that have recently preceded it, including Kate Simpson’s photographic reflection at SHOWstudio earlier this year. Set to tour for two years following its brief Shoreditch stint, this isn’t a show to miss. Pour yourself a Vodka and Coke (Burrough’s favourite drink) and head on down.

‘Animals In The Wall’ opens today and runs to 7th September at Londonewcastle Project Space, 28 Redchurch St, London E2 7DP
