Saint Laurent Psych Rock Collection for Men and Women
By Alex James Taylor | 12 December 2014
Photography Hedi Slimane

For SS15 Hedi Slimane celebrated Psych Rock’s new rising at Saint Laurent, giving the movement the decadent wardrobe it deserves. Translating Californian desert springs to the catwalk in glam splendour, the collection’s campaign, photographed on street castings by Slimane in Connecticut has just been unveiled, featuring piled-on jewellery, couture crochet blankets, leather jackets and wide-brim gaucho hats, punctuated with a feather, for men and women.

From the US to Australia, the UK and France, a new sound is emerging in psychedelic music. The original liberation, between 1967 and 1969 was fuelled when beat bands started taking acid beneath tangerine trees and marmalade skies.

Whilst Slimane’s love of music stems from his own ceaseless fascination of youth culture, it also harmonises with the lineage of the house and Mr Yves Saint Laurent himself. Together with lifelong muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux the designer embraced avant-garde culture in the 60s, dominating the catwalk with beatnik looks and bohemian spirit inspired by what he saw on the street. A fashion rebel with the panache to match, it was Saint Laurent who dressed Bianca Jagger in a white Le Smoking to marry Mick in St Tropez, 1971.
